Grade 11/12 - Course Structure
Physical Education/Health Education 30F: Active Healthy Lifestyles (PE 30F)This compulsory full credit course is designed to help students begin to take ownership of their personal physical activity levels and physical fitness development. Students are encouraged to discover physical activities suited to their personal interests, which will promote an active healthy lifestyle. This Grade 11 course will include core curriculum topics related to: Fitness Management, Mental/Emotional Health, Substance Use and Abuse prevention; and the Social Impact of Sport, participation in physical activity blocks and a Physical Activity Practicum. Seventy-five percent of the course will be teacher activities, where students must complete 5 activity blocks and 1 health core block. A few examples of option activity blocks are: yoga, basketball, badminton, touch football, fitness classes and weight training. The remaining twenty-five percent will be physical activity involvement outside the school. Students must complete 55 hours of physical activity time outside of their regularly scheduled class. Students will be responsible for journaling 40 of these hours in which parents/guardians will sign to verify the activity has been completed. The remaining 15 hours are achieved by completing 10 hours of self-directed workouts (SDW) at FRC’s healthy living center, and attending 5 hours of an instructor lead Phys. Ed class (IDW), that include activities like yoga, female fitness, and spin class. |
Physical Education/Health Education 40F: Active Healthy Lifestyles (PE 40F)This compulsory full credit course is designed to continue with the student’s development of their personal physical activity and fitness plan. Students will have the opportunity to choose and participate in a variety of physical activities which will promote an active healthy lifestyle. This grade 12 course will include core curriculum topics related to: Fitness Management, Nutrition, Personal and Social Development, Healthy Relationships, participation in physical activity blocks and a Physical Activity Practicum. Fifty percent of the course will be teacher led activities, where students must complete 3 activity blocks and 1 health core block. The remaining fifty percent will be physical activity involvement outside the school. Students must complete 80 hours of physical activity time outside of their regularly scheduled class. Students will be responsible for journaling 55 of these hours in which parents/guardians will sign to verify the activity has been completed. The remaining 25 hours are achieved by completing 20 hours of self-directed workouts (SDW) at FRC’s healthy living center, and attending 5 hours of an instructor lead Phys. Ed class (IDW). |
Note: Parents/guardians of grade 11 and grade 12 students will be required to review the student’s physical activity plan and sign an Informed Consent Agreement acknowledging their approval of the chosen activities and acceptance of the responsibility for risk management, safety, and supervision.
Parents/guardians will also be required to verify the entries of the student’s physical activity log through a sign-off procedure.
